Compare the frequency of Ruffles for each month.
Ruffles were featured in Harpers Bazaar a total of 90 times. Not every single advertisement and editorial were head-to-toe ruffles, but HB managed to squeeze in quite a few ruffled trims, and peplums here and there which helped up the count. In January and February, ruffles seemed to be making a quiet entrance. As soon as the March issue debuted, ruffles were scattered across 45 pages. With in the 45 pages, there were two editorials COMPLETELY dedicated to taking about the ruffles trend. In April, there were only 9 pages featuring ruffles.
Why are there more or less?
January and February had a relitively normal amount of pages that included ruffles. Of course it's known that the March issue of HB is around 400+ pages & is one of the largest fashion issues of the year, so that explains why there are more appearances for March. April on the other hand is quite peculiar because it only had 9. Since the trend was seen so much in the previous issue of HB, there is a possibility that they did not want to over feature the trend and wait for it to catch on in the fashion world.
Importance:
I feel that the frequent appearance of ruffles was highly significant. The fact that ruffles were featured in over 6 editorials, two of which were completely dedicated to ruffles, exemplified the importance of this trend and it's future in the fashion industry.
The other day, I went to New York and Company and I bought a beautiful top with these big flamenco ruffles cascading down the front. Never in my wildest dreams would I imagine myself wearing flamenco ruffles. But when I put them on, they were so free flowing and feminine and I couldn't help but feel great about myself when I put them on. My point is, by wearing a peplum or flamenco ruffles, women have the ability to show their confidence and womanly beauty. I feel they are important for fashion because they can add beauty, elegance, and femininity to an outfit by dangling from an outfit.
